How to Prepare for CLAT from Class 12: Plan for the Months You Have

Count back from the December exam, balance school work, and build a plan around your current skills.

Part of the CLAT 2027 guide

For Class 12 CLAT preparation, count the months to the entrance exam and start with a diagnostic across all five sections. Do not assume you have a full year after Class 12 begins.

Put the dates in the right order

CLAT 2027 is scheduled for 6 December 2026. Candidates appearing for their qualifying examination in March or April 2027 can apply under the published eligibility rules. Those board examinations come after this CLAT sitting, not in the middle of a preparation year leading up to it.

School tests and pre-boards can still overlap preparation. Use your school’s actual calendar and the announced entrance date.

First two weeks: find the gaps

Read the format and syllabus. Try a full diagnostic or several sectional sets, recording accuracy and time. Establish reading and current-affairs study while revising basic maths and practising reasoning.

Do not conclude from one difficult paper that a section cannot improve.

The main preparation period

Rotate all five sections. Direct additional time towards errors that recur: weak vocabulary in context, unsupported inferences, missing GK background, rule exceptions or calculation mistakes.

Add timed sets and full mocks at intervals you can review properly. A standard mock is two hours, not three; use an extended duration when officially applicable. Review time depends on what needs resolving, not a compulsory ratio.

Fit the plan around school

Reduce CLAT workload during intensive school assessments if necessary, then resume. Schedule school revision too; the qualifying examination still matters for eligibility. Avoid a plan that assumes February and March must occur before the December entrance exam.

Final weeks

Review recurring errors, revise current affairs and rehearse answer-sheet marking and a complete time budget. Keep practising comprehension: there is no evidence here for a fixed reading ceiling or a claim that a few weeks automatically fixes maths.

If you start late

Choose achievable weekly tasks and evaluate progress. Fewer months require prioritisation, but they do not justify abandoning English or Quantitative Techniques by default. Use your diagnostic and later results to decide.
