How Many Months Are Enough for CLAT Preparation? Plans for 6, 12 and 24
There is no single right answer. Here is what each runway realistically allows, and what you have to give up on the shortest one.
Part of the CLAT 2027 guide
There is no guaranteed number of months that is enough for CLAT. Your starting skills, available time and progress in practice matter. Six, twelve and twenty-four months below are planning examples, not admission promises.
First count the time you actually have
Work backwards from the announced exam date, not the end of the school year. CLAT 2027 is scheduled for December 2026, before the March/April 2027 qualifying examinations mentioned in the eligibility rules. Starting Class 12 does not automatically provide twelve months before CLAT.
If you have around 24 months
Begin regular reading, basic maths revision and an introduction to all five sections. Start with manageable untimed sets, then add timed work. Do not postpone whole subjects for eight months simply because the exam is distant.
Build current-affairs context gradually and keep it updated. Increase full-mock practice nearer the exam when you can review each attempt. Use the extra time to address weaknesses alongside school.
If you have around 12 months
Use the first few weeks to understand the paper and establish a baseline. Rotate all five sections while building reading and current-affairs habits. Progress from sectional practice to full timed mocks, with review and targeted correction between attempts.
If you have around six months
Start with a diagnostic and identify the largest recoverable gaps. Practise across all sections, then direct additional time towards weaknesses that improve with focused work. Keep reading practice; six months is not a reason to assume comprehension cannot improve.
Do not abandon Quantitative Techniques automatically. A small amount of work on a specific calculation weakness may be valuable. Decide using your answers and timings.
If you have less time
Choose a smaller, realistic weekly plan. Use mocks to test it and leave time to review. Avoid taking so many papers that you cannot investigate the errors.
In the final weeks
Emphasise revision and familiar routines, while still addressing a clear gap when practical. Keep following relevant news: a blanket ban on new material can make current-affairs preparation stale. Protect school commitments and rest throughout.
