CLAT Counselling Process, Round by Round

How registration, allotment, freeze, float and exit work. The previous cycle explains the terms; CLAT 2027 dates and payment rules need their own notification.

Part of the CLAT 2027 guide

CLAT counselling is the process of registering for seat allocation, receiving an offer and completing the required acceptance steps. It is separate from applying for the exam. A rank alone does not complete admission.

The outline below explains the previous cycle’s process. It is not a confirmed CLAT 2027 schedule or fee notice.

Before allotment

Check your candidate account for an invitation and follow the registration instructions. Submit preferences in your genuine order of choice, considering cost, course and location. Confirm the required number of preferences and whether changes are allowed under the current notice.

When a seat is offered

Freeze means accepting that allocation without seeking an upgrade in later central rounds. It does not remove the need to complete payments and document checks.

Float keeps you eligible for a higher listed preference, subject to the applicable round and payment rules. An upgrade replaces the earlier allocation; order preferences carefully.

Exit means leaving the counselling process. Refunds depend on the type of fee and the timing of exit. Do not assume all payments are refundable.

Payments and later rounds

Counselling registration, confirmation and university fees are distinct. Use the CLAT 2027 notice for amounts, deadlines, adjustments and refunds. Previous-cycle amounts are deliberately not reproduced here.

Record every required action and deadline. A missed payment or response can affect an allocation. Keep receipts and confirm the status in your account.

Completing admission

Follow the allotted university’s document and payment instructions. Retain original qualification and applicable reservation certificates. The current notice determines the number of rounds and any final-round restrictions.

Historical reference: the Consortium’s CLAT 2026 counselling instructions, hosted by a participating university explain the terminology above. Use them for background only, not for CLAT 2027 deadlines or fees.
