CLAT Eligibility 2027: Marks, Age Limit, Stream and Class 12

Short answer

Who is eligible for CLAT UG 2027?

You need 45% marks in Class 12 (or the equivalent), or 40% if you are SC, ST or PwD. There is no upper age limit, and the official criteria list no stream or subject requirement. If you are sitting Class 12 in March or April 2027 you can still apply, and show proof of passing at the time of admission.

What marks do you need for CLAT?

You must have passed Class 12 (or an equivalent examination) with at least:

Category Minimum marks in Class 12
General, OBC and all other candidates 45%
SC, ST and PwD candidates 40%

The official page states the general requirement as 45% of marks “or its equivalent in grade”. PwD candidates sit in the 40% group, alongside SC and ST. If your board gives grades, the equivalent applies.

Is there an age limit for CLAT?

No. The official eligibility page says there is no upper age limit for candidates appearing for the UG programme in CLAT 2027. It lists no minimum age either. Our short guide to the CLAT age limit has more.

Can I apply while I am still in Class 12?

Yes. Candidates appearing for their qualifying examination in March or April 2027 are eligible to sit CLAT. You must produce evidence of having passed, with the required percentage, at the time of admission, not at the time of application. If you cannot, you lose your right to be considered for admission.

The December 2026 entrance exam therefore comes before those candidates’ 2027 board results.

Does my stream matter for CLAT?

No stream is listed in the eligibility criteria. Applicants from science, commerce and humanities meet the same marks requirement. That includes maths: see is maths necessary for CLAT?, since Quantitative Techniques does not go beyond Class 10.

What about nationality, NRI seats and reservation?

The eligibility page does not cover these, so we do not state rules for them here. Nationality conditions, NRI and NRI-sponsored seats, and seat reservation (including any state-domicile quota) are set outside the page above: in the Consortium’s admission and counselling notices and by each university. Check those, and the specific NLU you want, before you rely on a category or quota. Keep your certificates ready in good time. See the counselling process.

Is this the same for CLAT PG?

No. This page covers UG admission. Postgraduate applicants must consult the separate PG eligibility rules. Do not apply the UG thresholds to an LL.M. application.
